This institute started its activity on the 20th October, 1945 and had one faculty, that of General Medicine, that assembled 32 chairs wherein about 1000 students studied at. The teaching process was developed by 130 professors, including 20 PhDs and 23 Doctors in Medical Science.


At present, the State University of Medicine and Pharmacy “Nicolae Testemitanu” is a high educational institution of international fame that trains medical and pharmaceutical personnel in conformity with the modern concepts and international exigencies of training and education of the future specialists. Within it, at university level there function the faculties of General Medicine (inclusively the specialty of Public Health), Dentistry, Pharmacy and the Section for undergraduate studies (for students – citizens of other countries); at postgraduate level – the faculties of Residency and fellowship training, continuous education and the department of Doctorate and Master’s degree.

Education System
The noble mission of educating the staffs belongs to the teaching team of professors with a strong intellectual potential and a rich professional experience. Within 79 chairs, 11 courses and 14 scientific labs there activate 1000 specialists, inclusively 14 academicians and member correspondents of the Moldova Science Academy, honorable members of the academies of other states, 140 PhDs and 536 doctors in medical science, 20 Laureates of the State Award in the field of science and technique. This potential, except the didactic and scientific activity, keeps relations of collaboration in the field of forming medical and pharmaceutical staffs, medical science and practical medicine with other 30 Universities and Clinics from France, Germany, Italy, Greece, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, the USA, Israel, Romania, Russia, and Ukraine etc.

Program of study Medicine is performed at two faculties: Medicine no. 1 (languages of training Romanian, Russian and French) and Medicine no. 2 (language of training English). The duration of studies is 6 years. Students start their studies mainly with pre-clinical subjects in the first II years. Clinical disciplines are included gradually and are carried out at the University Chairs (Departments) based in hospitals, where students develop their communication and practical skills.

The curriculum meets the recommendations of the WHO and Association of Medical Schools in Europe concerning the medical education. In 2018 the Medicine study program was accredited by National Accreditation Board and in 2019 was accredited according to the World Federation of Medical Education (WFME) requirements.

There are more than 4000 students at the program of study Medicine (including 2000 international students). International students have optimal conditions for studying medicine (simulation center, well equipped laboratories, up-to-date information resources, and access to the patients). After graduation, international students usually have to pass a screening test in the country of origin.

Scientific Medical Library

Our University has a modern and well-stocked Scientific Medical Library that offers support for the educational and scientific processes and provides a range of information services for beneficiaries. The Library offers access to more than 900 000 publications (in Romanian, English, Russian, French and other languages) in the lecture halls and for home loans (textbooks and scientific publications). The Library provides online access to the programs: HINARI, OARE, ARDI and various medical databases like Scopus, Cochrane Library, Cambridge Journal Online, STAT!Ref, OncologySTAT, etc. and offline access to a representative collection of CDs and DVDs. Open 7 days a week, the University Library has 5 reading rooms and 4 information centers equipped with computers and Internet connection, located in different regions of the city (near the campus and hospitals).

Accommodation

On arrival at the Chisinau International Airport, foreign students are met by the representatives of the University and accompanied to their lodging. Also upon arrival, foreign students can make international phone calls by using cards that can be purchased at the airport, or from telephone stations located in many places throughout the city, including the neighborhood of the students' campus.


The SUMPh provides hostel accommodation to all international students immediately after arriving in the country, so it is not necessary to look for accommodation. There are 16 hostels with single/double/triple persons in a room accommodation. All hostels are equipped with kitchens, shower-rooms, terrace, study rooms, internet and other facilities. Each floor has: a kitchen with all necessary equipment, showers, and several living units consisting of 2 rooms 2 2(18m and 12 m ), a small corridor and a toilet. Each room is estimated to have 2 people living in it. In case of availability of free spaces, Indian citizens may apply to the management of Foreign Students Department with a request to allot them 2 places in the room at a corresponding cost. The hostels are located in the student's campus which is within walking distance to some academic buildings, university clinics, university pharmacies, medical scientific library, canteen, etc. There are good transport links which assure connection between student's campus and other places in city.
