Location

Oradea, the Capitol City of Bihor County, is one of the important economic, social and cultural centers of north-western Romania, holding on to these characteristics throughout its history. The city is nestled among hills that divide and unify the Crisana Plains and the hill-like limits of the Apuseni Mountains in a harmonious way. Located on the Crisul Repede River which divides the city into almost equal halves, it is the gateway to Central Europe and Western Europe.
Located just 8 miles from the Hungarian border and spanning both shores of the Crisu Repede River, the elegant city of Oradea is a great starting point for exploring Romania. Baile Felix, a spa resort located only 5 miles south of the city, is home to several thermal springs and medical centers offering treatments that alleviate rheumatism, arthritis, and neurological problems. The town is crossed by the main road linking the Hungarian border with Cluj Napoca and Deva. On opposite sides of the Crisu Repede River are the Union Square (Piata Unirii) and King Fedinand Square (Piata Regele Ferdinand), off which runs strada Republic, a central pedestrian-only shopping street in Oradea, displaying an incredible number of Secession buildings. In the summertime, the café terraces lining the banks of the Crisu Repede afford some great views of the town’s lavish landmarks.

Oradea’s most imposing sight is the spectacular Oradea Fortress (Cetatea Oradea).The present shape of the five-point-star fortress was given in 1569, when Italian military architect Domenico da Bologna was commission with rebuilding it after repeated invader attacks. One of its interesting elements is a network of underground channels that were supplied by ducts of warm water during the winter. Throughout the year the citadel is host to several art exhibitions and craft fairs.

Introduction

Oradea University is a non-profit, state funded medical university, located in Oradea, Romania in Eastern Europe, and offers internationally recognized qualifications in Medicine. During the Soviet era, Oradea was quoted as being one of the top 10 English international medical schools in Eastern Europe, for the education of foreign medical students. This rating was based on study environment, safety, quality and recognition of the degree and on the affordability of English medical program. Oradea University offers quality education for students interested in pursuing a career in Medicine. The English Department was opened in 1991 and has since produced Medical Doctors from countries all around the world. The qualification is highly recognized and graduates write the same state licensing exams as the Romanian language Department.

Education Base

The Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy of Oradea also called Oradea medical university (Oradea medical school) is one of 15 faculties of Oradea University. Founded in 1991, today, the faculty of medicine and pharmacy of Oradea provides undergraduate and postgraduate medical studies in English and Romanian. Admission to medical studies in Oradea is by entrance exam for EU/EEA students and by application document selection for non-EU/EEA students.

Clinical Exposure

Municipal Hospital Dr. Gabriel Curteanu Oradea. The hospital is located in the center of Oradea, a city that lies on the left and right of the Quick Crişului. Buildings in the hospital was built in 1731. Municipal Clinical Hospital "Dr. Gabriel Curteanu" Oradea was built between 1965-1969 and is located in the Western Area of Oradea. It was opened in the spring of 1969, specifically May 1969. From 01/01/2011 turned into Municipal Clinical Hospital by unification with the former neuropsychiatric hospitals, and the infectious lung disease. articulated main building is a piece in the form letter T, consisting of block A located on the B 10 levels and arranged on 5 levels. A body found in hospital premises, technical and administrative services, the body B, the top floor is the department of anesthesia and intensive care and operating theater and at levels 1, 2, and 3 are located radiology services, laboratory, functional explorations, Physiotherapy and medical gymnastics serving both hospital and ambulatory both. Extremity body B is for specialized outpatient hospital surgeries.

Library

In 1990, when the University of Oradea was founded, the library of the Higher Education institute of Oradea became the Library of the University of Oradea. In order to provide better reading conditions for its students and teaching staff, the University of Oradea initiated the construction of a modern library, one of the largest university libraries in the country. The building has five levels, an effective area of 7650 square meters, being organized on two functional compartments: one for the book storage and one for reading and study.

Amenites

Foreign students who study in Romania can obtain accommodation and food in the campus. They can also find accommodation in hotels, or to rent a flat. For assistance in finding accommodation in private flats the students can contact directly the local real estate agencies. Some may make arrangements to live with Romanian families. The apartments in Oradea are affordable and in most cases include central heating, cable TV, furnished kitchens and rooms. Landlords usually ask for a 2 to 3 months deposit or rent in advance. Internet facilities and phone lines are also easy to arrange. Prices of apartments range from €150 - €300 and apartments can easily be shared between 2-3 students depending on size. Medical students prefer to stay close by to the medical faculty, however most places in Oradea are within walking distance as Oradea is a small city. Over and above the rent of an apartment students will be required to pay a maintenance fee which covers the central heating, water and electricity. This can be between €50 - €100, with the more expensive months being during winter.
