INTRODUCTION:
Gomel State Medical University was founded in 1990.
Establishment of Higher Educational Institution "Gomel State Medical University" was in the year 1990, according to the Decision of the Council of Ministers of the BSSR from 14.11.1990 № 284 and Order of the Minister of Health of the BSSR from 20.11.1990 № 188 to ensure the training of doctors and highly qualified specialists. By the Order of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus of 13.06.2003 № 242 Gomel State Medical University is accredited in the Republic of Belarus as the University.
In 2000, at the initiative of the Rector and the decision of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus, the Faculty for training of specialists for foreign countries was opened.
In 2010 the University introduced a certified management system according to ISO 9001: 2008 (certificate of conformity is registered in the bureau "Veritas". This certificate certifies that the quality management system design and implementation of educational activities in the field of medical education: pre-university (preparatory courses, preparatory department) undergraduate (first and second levels of education) graduate (internship, internship, clinical residency, postgraduate) - meets the requirements of ISO 9001: 2008.
In March 2012, the University is accredited by the State Committee for Science and Technology and the National Academy of Sciences as a research organization.
Gomel State Medical University today is having:
s More than 300 highly qualified professors, associate professors, assistant professors;
s 4 faculties - medical, medical-diagnostic, faculty for training specialists for foreign countries, Faculty of pre-university training , internship and clinical residency , doctorate, post-graduate and Masters;
s 36 departments, as well as a research laboratory, the research sector, the department of science and scientific and medical information publishing department, professors Advisory Centre and other structural units;
s 18 large hospitals with modern equipment, which is made on the basis of learning;
s Clinical base of the university is one of the best in Belarus, where the most modern medical technology for diagnosis and treatment of endocrine, cardiology, immunology, hematology, ophthalmology, cancer;
s Over 3,000 (including more than 400 foreign) students enrolled in the faculties of the University;
s 4 modern comfortable dormitories where students live.
s During its existence the University has created a highly professional team, capable to train medical staff at the appropriate level, to undertake research, to provide medical advice to the public.
s During the period 2008-2013. It opened training on three specialties of higher education II level. The number of students has increased by 1,036.
