At present, the University has 11 disciplines: Engineering, Medicine, Management, Science, philosophy, economics, law, education, literature, history and agriculture, offering a variety of degree programs, including 86 undergraduate programs, 303 graduate programs, 237 PhD programs. There are 31 post-doctoral research centres, 7 national key disciplines, 15 national key sub disciplines.

Now the University has over 1,000 professors and 1,300 associate professors, including 24 academicians, 65 professors receiving funds from the Cheung Kong Scholars program, 36 winners of National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, 36 listed in the “National Talents Project” and 135 young scholars listed in “New Century Outstanding Talents Project” of the Ministry of Education. HUST has been awarded more than 10 national prizes for education reform, with 37 courses honored as the National Quality Courses and 126 excellent course books listed in the National 11th “Five-Year Key Course books”.

In recent years, the university receives increasing research funds, and its number of publications accepted in SCI, EI, ISTP was among the top ten universities in China. The Affiliated Union Hospital and Tongji Hospital are large modern comprehensive hospitals integrating the function of medical service, education, scientific research and training.

As the medical centres of Hubei Province and even South Central China, the hospitals boast a large number of sophisticated medical equipments, like advanced level superconductive magnetic resonance devices, X knife device. They also maintain leading positions in organ transplantation, cardiovascular surgery, haematologists, ENT, orthopaedics, urology and other fields within the country. The affiliated Liyuan Hospital specializes in presbyatrics and is the research centre of Geriatric Conditions of Hubei Province.

LIBRARY

The university library is made up of three multi-functional libraries with an area of 53,000 square meters; the library holds a total collection of 5.79 million books, including 4.72 million printed items, 1.02 million electronic books, over 40,000 video materials, 308 network databases, and 20,000 electronic journals.

The library has 40 reading rooms and 4,200 places for readers and uses full open shelves loan system. Libraries at three campuses in total possess 905 net information nodes, 82 net devices and servers, 40T SAN disk memory system, 555 computers as well as 3 electronic reading rooms and 1 electronic training room equipped with interactive multimedia teaching system
